RIT's Visual Culture Program in the School of Communication (https://www.rit.edu/liberalarts/school-communication; https://www.rit.edu/study/visual-culture-minor) invites applications for a Lecturer position teaching Visual Culture, beginning in August 2024. The successful candidate will have PhD by date of appointment in Visual Culture, Art History, Cinema Studies, Visual Studies, or Media Studies, or closely related area; or MA degree and evidence of extensive experience. The position will support the Visual Culture Program's three minors: Visual Culture, Film Studies, and American Arts. Lecturer faculty typically teach a 4/4 load, balanced with appropriate service. The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate classes at all levels, including introductory surveys (Introduction to Visual Arts or Introduction to Visual Culture) and upper-level classes, including American Film Since the Sixties. The applicant will have the opportunity to propose new courses in their area of specialization. We are interested in candidates with a promising teaching record, with a preference for previous experience teaching in the fields of Visual Culture, Art History, Film Studies, Visual Studies, and/or Media Studies. We seek candidates with expertise and interest in creating course experiential learning opportunities, drawing upon the visual culture, art history, and film studies resources on campus and in the Rochester region. RIT lecturers have significant opportunity for professional development and career advancement to be promoted in rank on the non-tenure track from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer to Principal Lecturer.

The Visual Culture Program is a part of the School of Communication in the College of Liberal Arts. The program is housed within a dynamic technological university with a longstanding commitment to liberal and fine arts. RIT features a range of imaging technologies and holds extensive image collections, including the Vignelli Center for Design Studies, the Cary Graphic Arts Collection, the RIT Archives, and the Dyer Art Center. Required Minimum Qualifications

• PhD by date of appointment in Visual Culture, Art History, Cinema Studies, Visual Studies, or Media Studies, or closely related area; or MA degree and evidence of extensive experience.
• Demonstrates expertise relevant to effective teaching of both introductory and advanced courses across our three undergraduate minors: Visual Culture, Film Studies, and American Arts. These courses include but are not limited to: American Film Since the Sixties, and either Introduction to Visual Arts /or Introduction to Visual Culture Have demonstrated teaching ability. Experience teaching in the fields of Visual Culture, Art History, Film Studies, Visual Studies, and/or Media Studies is preferred.
• Have ability and interest in teaching that incorporates experiential learning utilizing visual resources.
• Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the colleges continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
