A member of the Enrollment Leadership Team and reporting to the Vice President for Admissions and Financial Aid, the Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the administration and operation of state, federal and institutional financial aid programs in compliance with all applicable regulations, rules, and policies. The end goal is a program that supports the enrollment and retention of HWS students. The director is responsible for ensuring excellent service to students and families with a focus on the strategic deployment of institutional resources. The Director has a principal role in reviewing, interpreting, and establishing regulations and policies and ensures that all staff have a full understanding of compliance requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership, management, continuous training, and supervision of all student financial aid programs.
• Develop and maintain documented policies and procedures, in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, as well as institutional policies.
• Oversee the administration of federal Title IV federal aid, state financial aid programs, and institutional scholarships, including the Colleges' program eligibility and compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Supervise and direct the performance of staff to ensure the department and institution follows Federal, State, and institutional policies.

• Continuously review federal and state legislation and makes appropriate recommendations and implementation of departmental and institutional policies and procedures.

• Prepare financial aid packages and develop effective means to communicate those packages to students and families.
• Work with admissions team and consultants to maximize the effectiveness of institutional aid.
• Collaborate on the development and submission of IPEDS reports, FISAP, institutional surveys, and all other reports dealing with federal, institutional, and state student aid.
• Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of outreach that provides the College, potential and current students, and the community with awareness of financial assistance opportunities.
• Participate in and respond to audits and program reviews conducted by federal, state, and independent agencies.
• Oversee financial aid module system support, including management, maintenance, installation, testing, and support of all financial aid software for the department financial aid software module, U.S. Department of Education and various state scholarship offices' software and electronic systems, and financial aid service provider software and web-based products.
• Prepares, monitors, and controls the annual budget for the Department, including campus-based funds.
• Collaborate with Human Resources to oversee the student employment program.
• Collaborate with Office of Advancement to oversee the awarding of endowed scholarships.
• Participate in programming and outreach activities with external partners, such as high schools and other post-secondary institutions.
• Collaborate with Communications and Marketing on print and e-marketing materials.
• Interface with outside agencies, auditors, and College departments on behalf of the Financial Aid Department.
• Other duties as assigned.

Other Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, 37.5 hours per week, benefits-eligible administrative position. Normal hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year. Occasional weekend and evening hours required. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.


Qualifications

• A bachelors degree is required with demonstrated experience in financial aid services.
• A minimum of 6 years of progressive work experience in financial aid services including a demonstrated knowledge of student financial aid regulations and program administration
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Current knowledge of federal and state financial aid processes and regulations along with significant experience in the strategic use of institutional aid in an enrollment process.
• Extensive experience with the use of technology in financial aid processing
• Demonstrated success in working with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
• The desire to thrive in a highly collaborative and team focused institution are critical considerations.
• Knowledge of system applications such as: Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel.
• Strong creative problem solving and communication skills and a proactive approach.
• Strong customer service orientation: supportive, optimistic, resourceful.
• Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to diverse social, cultural, and economic circumstances.
• Highly reliable, flexible, and adaptable
