Wells College seeks qualified candidates for the position of Systems Specialist. The Systems Specialist’s role is to be backup to the Systems Administrator as needed, and to understand the applications and database systems maintained and operated by the college. Their role is to assist with end user support, report writing, and administration of systems, and application security. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist in managing all activities related to the operations and maintenance of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system: including account creation and maintenance, database monitoring and tuning, system backup/restore, data imports/exports/extracts, peripheral equipment, updates systems and disaster recovery documentation, printing, and other system and database administration and maintenance.
- Installs hotfixes, patches, and software upgrades in a timely manner.
- Provides training on ERP system use, and troubleshoots problems encountered by users.
- Query databases using the SQL Server administrative tools. Write Transact-SQL statements to query data, manipulate data, and assist with report writing.
- Assist in training end users on report writing and data warehouse/reports.
- Develop and/or work with staff to create/develop/possibly maintain standard data reports customizable by the end user.
- Import and export data using SQL Server Integration Services.
- Develop and maintain proficiency with vendor-provided administrative tools for Jenzabar EX and JICS and related products. Act as liaison with Jenzabar support and Wells College users.
- Import and export data using SQL Server Integration Services.
- Work with IT Department to ensure all data is backed up. Assist with troubleshooting of database and system problems.
- Be available to assist all other areas of IT as needed.
The Systems Specialist should have experience with SQL, and additional skills in programming in Visual Studio, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL Server - database administration and query writing. Must have good customer service skills, work well in a team environment and within deadlines, be able to multi-task, and have good organizational and communication skills. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or Technical Certifications and relevant experience. Experience in Higher Ed. Is preferred.
