Wells College seeks qualified candidates for the position of Academic Support Manager. This position both coordinates and delivers academic support for Student Support Services(SSS) program participants, Collegiate Science and Technology Education Program (CSTEP) Scholars, and other Wells College students through the Office of Student Success (OSS). This position is grant funded and responsible for managing the delivery of virtual and in-person academic support resources appropriate to student needs. Recruits, trains and supervises tutors and academic skills workshop instructors. Provides tutoring, specialized instruction, and teaches preparatory courses as required. Develops protocols for the Academic Needs Assessment and Support Plan and ensures that each student receives a plan of support. Assists the SSS and C-STEP Directors and the Assistant Director of Student Success with informing the campus community and potential participants about SSS, CSTEP, and OSS initiatives. Assists with selection of SSS participants and monitoring of their academic progress. Assists with program evaluation; ensures students receive guidance on careers, majors, minors and course selection decisions; and supports achievement of program SSS, C-STEP, and OSS goals.
Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in a discipline taught at Wells College. Experience providing academic support services for students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Commitment to serving individuals from multicultural backgrounds. Teaching and/or tutoring experience. Strong interpersonal/communication skills and computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD in a discipline within the division of Natural and Mathematical Sciences at Wells College with preference for Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology. Demonstrated ability to engage undergraduates in research activities. Evidence of a strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity. Sensitivity to/understanding of multicultural needs and characteristics of the target population. Ability to work effectively and collegially with a range of officers and constituencies in a small institution.
