The Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences (PMDS) partners with the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) to promote the health, productivity, and welfare of food-and-fiber producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and wildlife populations, to ensure the safety of foods of animal origin, and to prevent animal disease with its associated risks to human health. These activities protect and improve public health, promote environmental stewardship, and foster economic growth.
What you will be doing:
The Administrator II position is vital to the success of the department. Candidates should demonstrate initiative, good judgment, and a high-level of professionalism and confidentiality. A desirable candidate will have a strong financial and HR background, have an organization system that allows management of multiple tasks/projects, and is highly detail oriented. You will use your honed service skills to create a positive, professional, and collaborative setting. Within this position, you will have the capability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population to advance the research mission of the department.
Specifically, you will provide a high-level of pre- and post-award support to faculty, academic staff, and graduate students. You will be responsible for the department's financial and sponsored award management providing financial analysis, future projections, and budget planning and implementation. You will provide faculty and academic staff with human resources support in hiring, managing term appointments, effort certification, and act as a liaison between faculty/staff and CVM HR.
You will also help to contribute as an integral part of a diverse team within the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences.
What are the required qualifications?
An Associate's Degree and three to four years of relevant experience - or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Analytical: You have the ability to provide a high-level of financial support to budget, plan, and monitor department funds, sponsored research projects, and faculty discretionary accounts. Provide standard and ad hoc reporting to CVM Administration, Department Chair, Director of Business Operations, and faculty.
Effective communicator: You are able to effectively interact with staff, faculty, students, university partners, and external vendors, in writing and verbally. We also need strong interpersonal and organizational skills. You can demonstrate clear communications that thoughtfully projects a helpful, positive impression. You also appropriately handle highly sensitive and confidential information.
Multi-tasker: You are able to work quickly and effectively under pressure with an emphasis on maintaining discretion and sound judgment and use a methodical approach to planning and tracking tasks. Superb organizational/interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and conflicting priorities simultaneously.
Strong service orientation: We seek your ability to anticipate and diplomatically resolve issues by using your remarkable customer service skills. You are able to work effectively with various personalities and different management styles.
Proactiveandcreativeproblemsolver: You have the ability to work independently, take initiative, and accomplish tasks effectively in a dynamic team environment. You creatively approach and solve problems, using sound judgment and reasoning. Experience conducting independent research, judgment, and decision-making.
In addition to these requirements, we would value someone with prior experience in higher education and an understanding of the university administrative structure or experience in preparing and submitting grants and contracts, but it is not required.
