This position has primary responsibility for managing operational aspects of an exemplary dining services program, and for providing legendary customer service to students, faculty/staff, affiliated departments and University guests. This includes supervision of others, including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. The Assistant manager may offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments for full time staff and direct responsibility for making these decisions for part-time student employees. This position should will be a leader among their peer group, setting a bar for excellence in the operations that defines student expectations for all subsequent dining experiences at RIT.
Detailed Job Description The current anticipated hours will be:
Monday - Friday 9:30 AM - 6:30*
NOTE:The hours will be subject to change as business needs dictate as well as break weeks and intersession. There is occasionally required additional hours or changed schedules for large scale campus events such as Imagine RIT and Commencement.*
Located within the Global Village Plaza, The The Global Cantina and Grille and the Global Market are two premiere RIT Dining Services venues. As part of RIT Dining striving to deliver legendary customer service and experiences that will help support the RIT Community.
Reporting to the General Manager of the Global Cantina and Grille and Global Market, they are part of the leadership team supporting these operations as well as working collaboratively with the entire Dining team. Together the two operations serve around 1500-2000 customers per day.
Create and maintain a welcoming professional environment.
Assists the General Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations. Must be able to learn all areas of Global Village Cantina & Grille and Global Village Market to provide coverage as business needs.
Oversight of culinary production, menu planning and culinary leadership.
Possess an awareness and basic knowledge of allergens, food sensitivities and dietetic restrictions. Work with the customer and management in resolving potential diet limitations of the customer.
Produce financial reports to evaluate cost and efficiencies for the unit.
Learn/document the unit's opening and closing procedures
Ensure full-time and student staffing levels are met and maintained within established university labor cost requirements.
Provide training and leadership to the full time staff and student workforce to maintain quality service.
Supervision of bar staff in accordance with RIT alcohol policy
Knowledge of cash handling procedures and point of sale system Order products from RIT approved vendors.
Responsible for cleanliness of facility as well as proper sanitation and safety procedures.
Adhere and manage all compliance, safety and health regulations.
Report to work on time, wear proper uniform, adhere and enforce departmental and university policies.
Carry out special assignments as requested by management
Attend meetings and seminars as requested by senior management.
Required Minimum Qualifications 3-5 years of experience in a high volume food service environment with at least 2 of those years in a supervisory role.
Serve Safe certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
Ability to lead, manage and work collaboratively with a team of non-exempt professionals.
Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional customer service.
Strong communication (verbal, written, interpersonal) skills and an ability to communicate effectively with a diverse constituency.
Strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage competing priorities.
Good professional judgment and ability to independently make sound business decisions.
