Under the direction and oversight of the Program Director of Nursing, Campus Nursing Laboratory Coordinator and Morrisville State College Professional Staff Policies, the responsibilities of the Instructional Support Assistant will:
Effectiveness in Performance:
Assists students on an individual or small group basis with nursing skills practice, instructs students in the skills laboratory setting, assists with clinical simulations.
Implements a variety of teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs and desired learner outcomes within the context of the campus, nursing laboratory.
Evaluates skill competency using pre-established criteria.
Teaches the campus laboratory content of NURS 110 and 150.
Develops and implements instructional methods that promote student development of critical thinking, sound decision-making and clinical competency.
Consults with the Campus Nursing Laboratory Coordinator and the nursing faculty as necessary for student skills remediation and learning activities.
Establishes practices and procedures for the nursing laboratory that provide effective learning experiences and safe practice.
Assists students with utilizing online learning resources.
Collaborates with the Campus Nursing Laboratory Coordinator in planning and scheduling to effectively utilize laboratory resources.
Prepares laboratory resources for students and faculty use and assists with maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies.
Collects and maintains statistics related to laboratory usage, and communicates to the Campus Laboratory Coordinator.
Models professional behaviors for learners including, but not limited to, involvement in professional organizations and engagement in lifelong learning activities.
Posts and maintains office hours weekly, as required, for individual student needs outside instructional time.
Engages in effective advisement and counseling strategies that assist learners to meet their personal and professional goals.
Refers students to support services on campus when appropriate.
Mastery of Specialization:
Maintains the professional knowledge base needed to facilitate the education of learners in preparation for contemporary nursing practice.
Ensures that the curriculum reflects institutional philosophy and mission, current nursing and health care trends, and community and societal needs so as to prepare graduates for practice in complex, dynamic, multicultural health care environments.
Effectiveness in University Services:
Contributes to the Morrisville State College academic community through participation in division and campus committees and activities.
Applies knowledge of legal and ethical issues relevant to nursing and higher education as a basis for influencing, designing and implementing policies and procedures related to students in the educational setting of the nursing laboratory.
Engages in self-reflection and continued learning to improve teaching practices that facilitate learning.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Master's degree or higher in Nursing (or progression in a Master's in Nursing Program)
Current unencumbered NYS RN registration
Recent nursing experience
Strong computer skills adapting to technology changes
Minimum of three years of clinical experience
Basic computer skills
