The Industry Liaison Officer (ILO),reporting to theChair of theFoodScienceDepartment, is responsible for identifying,cultivatingand managing a portfolio of corporateand small-business relationshipscentered in the foodindustry,and for identifying and implementing productivecollaborations between foodcompanies and faculty members in theDepartment of FoodScience. As part of these efforts, the ILOsupportsrevenuegeneratingactivitiesforthedepartment,mostly in support of graduatestudentfunding. These efforts may includepursuingsupport for departmentalendowments,current-usefunds, and sponsoredresearch programs. Targets for these activitieswillincludeindustry, foundations and federal and state grantprograms.
TheILOwilllead the CornellInstitute for Food SystemsIndustryPartnershipProgram(CIFS-IPP), a membership-based industrial outreach program that providesopportunities for companies to collaborate withCornell's Department of Food Science. CIFS-IPPallowscompanies to gaindirect and priority access to knowledgeandresourcesavailablethroughthedepartment.Theprogramhelpsconnectcompanies and organizations to food-relatedfacultyresearchprogramsatCornell,with the goal of establishingresearch collaborations, as well as internship and employmentopportunities for students.
TheILO is responsible for recruiting andretaining food companies as members of CIFS-IPP,organizingcorporate visits, and helping to forge new opportunities for partnering by appropriately connecting industry representatives to faculty researchers,andfacilitatingcollaborativeworkresultingfrom interactions with the industrymembers.TheILO serves to communicatetheareas of expertise and cutting-edge research being pursued by Department of Food Science faculty, as well as the alignment of this scholarship with industrytrendsandunmetneeds.OtherILOdutiesinclude:
Promotingandestablishingconnections between CIFS-IPP members and variousCornell Food Science programs andfacilities (theIthaca and Genevafood processing pilotplantfacilities,theCornell Sensory Evaluation Center, the Food Venture Center)
Promotingandfacilitatingtheuse of Cornell Food Science Extension resources(trainingworkshops,onlineprograms) by member companies
Designing and implementing an annual technicalsymposium and networkingsummit
Collaboratingwithdepartmentalstudentcoordinators for corporate engagement opportunities
Promotion for the program (website, periodic newsletter, materialsannouncingfacultyresearchto CIFS-IPP members)
Inthisleadershiprole,the ILO is assisted by both an internal FacultyAdvisory Committee and an externalLeadershipCommitteefromtheCIFS-IPP membership.
This is a 3 year appointment, with the opportunity for renewal every 3 years, dependent on performanceandcontinuedfunding for the program.Theposition is located on the Ithaca campus, but the possibility of workingremotely may also be considered,underveryspecific terms.
BS degree in Food Science or related fields, plus a minimum of five to seven years of experience in business partnerships, business development, or research and development, preferably in the food industry, or other equivalent combinations of education and experience

Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of diverse audiences and facilitate project communication and management efforts with project personnel and stakeholder groups
Ability to work both in a team and independently to accomplish required tasks and objectives.
Prior experience that demonstrates sound judgment, creativity, management and problem-solving skills, and the ability to build consensus and make progress through decisive actions.
Ability to plan ahead and anticipate potential conflicts so that they can be fairly resolved in a transparent and documented way.
Experience and skills in writing and presenting for both technical and nontechnical audiences.
Able to work in a fast-paced, diverse non-hierarchical and demanding environment
Must be a self-starter, capable of making decisions which require consideration of various criteria.
Must be personable, flexible, and responsive to constructive criticism.
Exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.
A high level of motivation and integrity is required.
Ability and willingness to travel to companies and select regional and national conferences a few times per year.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including database and web applications.
Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted NYS Driver License.
M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Food Science or related fields, with demonstration of a good understanding of the food industry
Work experience in the food industry
Broad-basedknowledgeofthe food industry and food technologytrends
Experience in preparingproposals
