SUNY Morrisville seeks candidates for a full-time, 12-month Academic Advisor in The School of Liberal Arts, Science and Society.
Advise students in degree completion requirements and procedures, including course selection and registration
Monitor student degree progress and make appropriate recommendations
Assist students' in designing a plan of study and defining their academic and career goals
Develop first semester schedules for incoming freshmen within advising school
Identify students' need for services and make appropriate referrals
Maintain systemic contact with advisees through phone, email, text message and chat
Serve as a liaison to assigned school office; develop knowledge of that majors, programs, and policies
Serve as Starfish"expert" to Liaison school and campus community
Monitor both primary advisees and students in Liaison school for Starfish flags and notifications. Make appropriate outreach and interventions
Present First-Year Experience as appropriate
Attend incoming student events as needed (LASS/Open house
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, human services, social work, or a related field.
Three to five years of experience in higher education, post-secondary instruction, academic counseling, career counseling, or student affairs.
Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse student populations, including first-generation college students and students from low-income backgrounds.
Strong interpersonal, intercultural, and written communication skills.
Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
