Senior Extension/Extension Associate – Leadership Development Associate – The Worker Institute, ILR School - New York, NY
The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an opening for a Senior Extension/Extension Associate – Leadership Development Associate in The Worker Institute unit in the Extension/Outreach Division.
The position is responsible for developing and delivering programs and services that are closely aligned with the strategic mission and core values of the ILR School, and for monitoring quality, impact, and outcomes of education, training, technical assistance, consulting and research activities of the program. The Senior Extension/Extension Associate will participate with other academic staff in setting thematic unit goals and will annually set individual programmatic and budgetary goals with the Executive Director.
Senior Extension/Extension Associate is a non-tenure track, academic term position with up to a three year initial appointment. The position may be reappointed on the basis of recommendations by the appropriate Executive Director, Academic Director and Associate Dean as well as available funding and work. This position will report to the WI NLLI Co-Director. Position rank will be determined by qualifications and experience.
This position will support the sustainability and expansion of the National Labor Leadership Initiative (NLLI). Five years ago, the Worker Institute at Cornell University collaborated with union partners and labor education programs, establishing the NLLI to create a community of leaders with outstanding personal leadership qualities and a commitment to strengthening and transforming their organizations to confront the unprecedented level of attacks on organized labor and working people. The program engages participants to build a stronger progressive movement that unites working people across union and community organizing sectors. The program is at an important crossroads: we have trained over 300 participants and built a strong network of stakeholders who see the importance of expanding its reach.
Master's degree in relevant field (social sciences, industrial relations, adult education, organizational development).
Minimum three to years of experience in education and facilitation of leadership programs for unions and/or worker organizations;
Seven to ten years of experience working in community organizations and/or unions, with at least five years of experience in community/labor collaborations.
Three to six years of experience with program management and administration.
Demonstrated ability to raise money from foundations and manage foundation relationships.
Three to five years of experience in curriculum development and design, with a focus on adult learners and union members/leaders.
Must be able to work independently while supporting the efforts of an overall team.
Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
Strong leadership, communication skills, collaboration, ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries without direct authority.
Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record in the thematic content area (articles in peer-reviewed journals, articles in trade publications, practitioner journals, research and project reports, informational brochures, policy briefs, etc.).
PhD strongly preferred.
Professional certification or advanced qualification in relevant area.
Proven track-record of raising and sustaining foundation grants of $250,000 or more.
Demonstrated ability to map out fundraising landscape and shape funders' priorities.
Strong relationships with local, national and international union leaders.
Minimum of one to three years demonstrated experience in successful grant writing and grant management.
