This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Buyer 3 position for Ship Operations in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU). This position will be located in Corvallis, Oregon but may be required to travel to Houma, Louisiana.
The Ship Operations unit of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) is seeking a Purchasing Specialist. CEOAS at Oregon State University (OSU) has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to design and build up to three Regional Class Research Vessels (RCRV).
The Purchasing Specialist is needed for the procurement, receipt, inventory, storage and delivery of a broad range of equipment, supplies and materials related to outfitting the new RCRVs. As the primary Purchasing Specialist this position will consult with RCRV personnel as well as non-OSU Operating Institution (OI) representatives in determining specific products requirements, quantities and delivery dates. Items requested include complex scientific items/equipment and unique maritime items used on research vessels.
This position functions within a team-based environment. This position's primary responsibilities are 1) Provide leadership in the use of the OSU eProcurement system to establish and maintain efficient processes related purchasing; 2) Provide direct consultation for equipment and final procurement; 3) Track, receive, inventory and maintain a broad range of equipment 4) Work as part of a team to ensure a high-quality experience for procurement.
Three years of purchasing experience which must include using purchasing practices, procedures, and techniques such as determining specifications, placing purchase orders, and processing requisitions; AND A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a closely-related field or three more years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills in working with users to effectively assess user requirements and communicate technology systems and solutions.
Word processing and spreadsheet experience.
Ability to prioritize tasks quickly.
Demonstrable commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality as well as initiative.
Ability to use good judgment.
Effective written communication skills, and experience communicating with end users via phone, email, and in person.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months. This position will require occasional travel to the remote office in Houma, Louisiana.
