The Department of Design at The Ohio State University seeks a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor with expertise in Industrial Design/Product Design. The position will commence on August 15, 2019; salary for this nine-month position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Successful performance in this position may offer the potential for renewal for up to two additional years.
The Department of Design includes BSD degree programs in Industrial Design, Interior Design and Visual Communication Design and an MFA in Design with an emphasis in Design Research and Development and Digital Animation and Interactive Media. Our department's focus on interdisciplinary and collaborative learning is distinctive and our research-based approach is strengthened by our location within the College of Arts and Sciences in a comprehensive research university.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for someone with a terminal degree in Design/Industrial Design/Product Design (MFA, MS, MA, MID, PhD, etc.) to instruct students at every level of our undergraduate Industrial Design major. PhD degrees in progress are acceptable. The successful applicant to this position will possess expertise in one or more of the following areas: computer-aided design, especially three-dimensional visualization/modeling techniques; emerging techniques for rapid prototyping and digital fabrication practices; understanding and evaluating the usability of physical materials; application of design research strategies to the design of innovative interactive digital products, services and systems; or entrepreneurial perspectives as they affect product design and development. We advocate for the development of socially-relevant and sustainably-produced products or services and our DESIS lab supports research projects with this focus. This person's creative endeavors may also be supported by the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) and the interdisciplinary analog and digital fabrication workshops that the department shares with the Department of Art.
