The Department of Dance at Davidson College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position, beginning July 1, 2019. Applicants should have a terminal degree (PhD preferred), a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching, and a desire to teach dance in a liberal arts environment.
We seek an active scholar/practitioner, who will bring new courses to our curricular offerings. The successful candidate will teach five classes, including courses in the current curriculum (Introduction to Dance Studies, Dance Repertory, and Dance Composition, for example), as well as developing new courses for the Dance Department schedule. To contribute to the departmental commitment to the intersections of dance practice and theory, new courses should include dance technique at a variety of levels (field open, but preference given to diasporic or non-Western forms), and classroom-based courses that draw upon the candidate’s areas of artistic and/or scholarly research (history, cultural studies, critical theory, performance studies, etc.). We are especially interested in classes that situate dance scholarship and dance practice in interdisciplinary conversations. We expect that the successful candidate would participate in co-curricular production activities and mentoring a diverse population of students.
To apply online, go to http://employment.davidson.edu. Submit a letter of application, a CV, a statement of teaching philosophy and interests (including specific mention of proposed courses), and the names and contact information of three individuals who are prepared to provide letters of recommendation. Additional information about candidate’s research interests, including links to publications or creative work, may also be submitted. Position open until filled; applications submitted before March 1 will receive full consideration. Questions can be directed to Alison Bory, Chair, Dance Department at email@example.com
