Serves as a field officer to actively qualify major gift prospects for the University of Iowa Center for Advancement (UICA) and University programs. Makes face-to-face calls on main campus major gift prospects in an assigned territory, primarily outside the Midwest. Works collaboratively with main campus constituent development officers. Conducts fundraising activities according to the established procedures, policies, and standards of the UICA.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitates the movement of major gift prospects through the donor continuum including the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of such prospects. This activity will focus on presenting quality proposals of $50,000 or more and will manage a major gift prospect portfolio. Specific activity objectives will be developed and agreed upon annually with the supervisor.
Develops and maintains thorough working knowledge of tax and estate planning issues and gift planning options in support of soliciting planned gift commitments by attending appropriate training and continuing education courses.
Attends special events within assigned regions.
Helps build the UICA information database by timely preparation and submittal of contact reports for all significant and external contacts.
Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge of the University in general and of funding priorities of the University and various UICA main campus constituent programs. Maintains open communication with other development officers and main campus constituency fund-raising staff and represents those areas along with University-wide interests.
5+ years work experience in (or related to) fundraising/development required, preferably in a higher education setting
Position involves frequent (approx 50%) out-of-state travel and evening/weekend work activities.
