A professional tutor must demonstrate an ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with students and instructors. They are responsible for providing individual and small group tutoring sessions in approved subjects and are expected to be flexible and willing to have their work assignments adjusted in order to support the College's program efforts.
Provide individual and/or group tutoring to students in approved content area.
Provide students with clarification of course assignments, lectures and tests.
Provide tutoring services in an open lab and/or self-paced setting.
Select and use resource material and/or lab equipment most appropriate to demonstrate study units/workbook assignments.
May participate in developing tutoring resource materials.
Attend tutor training sessions as available.
Maintain student tutoring records.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
This position reports to the supervisor in designated location and/or department in which they are assigned to tutor. This position must work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students of the college.
Associate's degree required; Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred.
If degree is not in content area, relevant work experience in related field is required. Two years of experience (part- or full-time) postsecondary tutoring preferred.
Ability to provide quality customer service. Oral and written communication skills required to deal effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Tutor positions are temporary, part-time and assigned on a semester basis as needed. Hours may vary week to week, but will not exceed 19.5/ week. Concentration in Math, Chemistry, Physics, and Writing is needed.
